Highlight |
New Jersey’s 150-mile long coastline is valuable habitat for threatened and endangered (T&E) shorebirds. Wildlife competition, predation, and suburban shore community development can be detrimental. WS protects the Federally threatened and State endangered piping plover and State endangered least tern at three coastal sites. At Little Beach, 18 piping plovers fledged in 2009 compared to 4 in 2008. This is the first time the recovery goal was met since 1999. At Holgate, 6 piping plovers fledged in 2009 compared to 0 in 2008. |
