Threatened and Endangered Species |
 |
Least terns were listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 1985 due to habitat loss and nest disturbance. To assist with the recovery of this species, WS provides technical assistance with predator management and also facilitates the issuance of Migratory Bird Treaty Act permits to allow the removal of predatory ring-billed and herring gulls. Five additional species were recently discovered to feed on, interfere with, or trample least tern nests. WS continues to work with the least tern working group to develop innovative solutions to predation issues. |
