Beaver Damage Management: Beaver Management Assistance from Wildlife Services State Offices

Wildlife Services conducts a Cooperative Beaver Damage Management Program in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Forest Service, local Native American Tribes, and cooperating counties. The Program’s goals include protecting coldwater ecosystems (i.e., trout streams), wild rice habitat management, timber resource protection, preservation of sensitive habitats/plants, and protection of trails, trail bridges, roads, culverts, dams and impoundments.  In the photo above, the tan/light brown areas had been flooded due to beaver dams. WS removal of dams resulted in the return to free flowing water and restoration of trout habitat.
