New Hampshire

Wildlife hazards at airports have become a major concern due to the potential for significant damage to aircraft and the threat posed to public health and safety.  To address wildlife hazards at airports, WS personnel in New Hampshire contributed 1.1 staff years to provide assistance at 7 civil and 1 joint use airport in FY 2010.  In addition, technical training was provided at 2 airports for 30 airport personnel.

WS in New Hampshire conducts integrated turkey and large bird harassment, removal, and monitoring.  In a cooperative study, WS attached transmitters to 30 wild turkeys and monitored them for two years to evaluate their population, movements, and risks to air traffic.  A final report from the study is forthcoming.
