Located along the Mississippi and Atlantic flyways for migratory waterfowl, Kentucky also contains one of the country’s busiest airports with more than 13.5 million passengers annually.  From 1990-2008, the Federal Aviation Administration reported more than 2,170 wildlife strikes at Kentucky airports.  To reduce the number of wildlife strikes, WS biologists contributed 2.954 staff years to provide assistance at 5 civil, 2 joint use, and 1 military airport in FY 2010.  In addition, technical training was provided at 2 airports for 67 airport personnel.
