APHIS Proposes to Allow Orchids in Growing Media from Korea to Be Imported into the Continental United States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture‚Äôs Animal and Plant Inspecting Service (APHIS) is proposing to allow orchid plants of the genera Phalaenopsis and Cymbidium from the Republic of Korea to be imported into the continental United States in an approved growing medium.  The plants would be subject to specified growing, inspection, and certification requirements to assure against the introduction and spread of plant pests or noxious weeds within the United States. APHIS prepared an environmental assessment evaluating the action following the request from the National Plant Protection Organization of Korea.  During this comment period APHIS is taking comments on that assessment.

APHIS will take comments on the proposal to allow orchids from Korea to be imported in an approved growing medium for 60 days after posting in the Federal Register on August 12, 2016. APHIS will consider all comments that we receive on or before October 11, 2016.
