APHIS Determines Fresh Andean Blackberries and Raspberries Can be Imported from Ecuador into the Continental United States Under a Systems Approach

Docket APHIS-2014-0085

USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will amend 7 CFR 319.56-1 through 319.56-74 of the Fruits and Vegetables regulations to allow importation of fresh Andean blackberry (Rubus glaucus Benth) and raspberry (Rubus idaeus Linnaeus) fruit into the continental United States from Ecuador subject to a systems approach.  Effective, May 9, 2016, commercial consignments of blackberry and raspberry fruit from Ecuador will be allowed into the U.S. The consignments must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate certified by the NPPO of Ecuador indicating compliance with the systems approach prescribed.  The risk mitigation measures include production site registration and production in low prevalence production areas with fruit fly trapping. These measures will sufficiently prevent the introduction of quarantine pests into the United States.
