Animal Health Safeguarding Review
In the fall of 2000, APHIS entered into a cooperative agreement with the National
Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) to conduct a review of
the Animal Health Safeguarding system. The review assessed the performance and
efficacy of the infrastructure, activities, procedures, policies, partnerships,
and authorities that comprise the existing safeguarding system. NASDA's
final report was delivered to USDA officials in November 2001.
APHIS has formed seven Issue Groups to develop Action Plans to address the
issues raised in the NASDA review. As Action Plans are approved by the Veterinary
Services Management Team, they are made available via this website for public comment.
Progress achieved in implementing the Review is reported monthly.
