Regulations

In an ever-changing world, VS continues to respond to stakeholders' needs and demonstrate its commitment to protecting U.S. animal health through the rulemaking process. VS published approximately 40 final or interim rules in FY 2002 on topics ranging from the status of various countries with various FADs, such as FMD and classical swine fever, to the prohibition of certain animal or animal product imports. VS also offered approximately 19 rules as proposals and sought public comment. VS published one declaration of emergency for ISA and announced three public meetings. Seven regulatory documents involving the announcement of availability and requests for comments on official documents such as environmental assessments or draft guidelines were published. One FAD committee meeting was announced and a new National Poultry Improvement Plan was put forth for comments.
