Communications

Since the success of many APHIS programs depends to a large extent on the cooperation of the public and affected industries, information plays a vital role in program operations. Public affairs specialists serve on behalf of VS as liaison to the media and Congress, and write high-priority correspondence, press releases, factsheets, publications, and other materials to help explain VS’ programs. In FY 2002, VS hired an additional public affairs support person to coordinate outreach to industry and the public and to further assist in supporting the VS mission. The year was quite a success, with the passage of the AHPA, large amounts of positive media coverage, and many new publications and revisions.
