Farm Animal Demographics Simulator

Lack of data on farm locations and animals can significantly limit the development of animal disease simulation models. Ken Geter describes how a farm animal demographics simulator helps overcome this limitation by creating agriculturally realistic data that do not violate privacy concerns. The simulator also aids in emergency management training scenarios. Learn more about the farm animal demographics simulator here.

NAHMS Plays Key Role in Surveillance

The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) unit is an integral part of the National Animal Health Surveillance System. The NAHMS program addresses information needs primarily through national study development, analysis and reporting. NAHMS also brings a history of collaborations with other Federal, State and local governments, universities, and producer industries. Find out more about NAHMS' role in surveillance and information on upcoming national studies

Pathways Analysis, Risk Assessment

The Risk Analysis Team (RAT) in the Center for Animal Disease Information and Analysis provides important information for domestic disease surveillance plans. Recently, RAT used the pathways analysis process to identify pathways for Rift Valley fever virus in the United States, and the risk assessment process to help develop a swine pseudorabies surveillance plan. National Animal Health Reporting System (NAHRS) Update

The National Animal Health Reporting System (NAHRS) collects data through State animal health officials on the occurrence of confirmed World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reportable diseases in commercial livestock, poultry, and aquaculture species. A Web-based reporting system was initiated in January 2005 and has been well received by the 45 participating States. Efforts are under way to recruit the remaining States into NAHRS participation. Modifications have also been made to align NAHRS with new OIE reporting criteria. Learn more about NAHRS here.
