Firewood can harbor tree-killing insects that could seriously damage America’s forest industries, public land, and community landscapes. Research has identified untreated firewood from foreign countries as one of the primary pathways for the introduction of forest pests into the United States. To address this problem, firewood must now be treated in nearly every region of the world and inspected on arrival from all countries.
