Plant Protection and Quarantine Pesticide Registrations

Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) uses pesticides as part of their programs to develop more effective techniques for managing plant pests. The programs generally use pesticides that have been granted a full EPA registration (Section 3 of FIFRA) under a commercial registrant. PPQ has special quarantine and emergency eradication uses for non-native pest species that are not covered by any registered commercial products. These uses are fulfilled through special emergency exemptions under Section 18 of FIFRA. The current emergency exemptions held by APHIS for PPQ program use are described below in the table by product:

Exemption # Product Program/s Use Pattern/s
02-DA-15 Diazinon Fruit Fly soil treatment for larval fly control
02-DA-03 Sodium carbonate Port use disinfectant
02-DA-04 Sodium hypochlorite Port use disinfectant
02-DA-05 Sodium hydroxide Port use disinfectant
Crisis Methyl bromide Port Use commodity fumigant
