September 9, 2013 APHIS To Launch a New Plant Health Protection Program
On Monday, September 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. EDT, APHIS will hold a Tribal Nations conference call to share information about the Federally Recognized State-Managed Phytosanitary Program (FRSMP). Under FRSMP, U.S. States now have a process to request that actions be taken at ports of entry against some nonregulated or deregulated pests in order to protect areas of the United States where pests could become established and cause economic or environmental harm. Tribes may choose to partner with a State(s) to request recognition of nonregulated pests that are of concern to Tribal agriculture or natural resources. For more information about the program, please visit http://frsmp.aphis.usda.gov. The PowerPoint that will be discussed during the call may be viewed here.
