Contact: USDA SEEKS COMMENTS ON THE BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS PROGRAM WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2009--The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) recently released a concept paper describing a new direction for the bovine tuberculosis program. This paper, entitled A New Approach for Managing Bovine Tuberculosis: Veterinary Services’ Proposed Action Plan, is available for public review and comment. The cooperative federal-state-industry effort to eradicate bovine tuberculosis from cattle in the United States has made significant progress since the program’s inception in 1917. However, unique challenges impede eradication. The concept paper presents APHIS’ current thinking about changes being planned to address these challenges. Consideration will be given to comments received on or before Dec. 4. You may submit comments by either of the following methods:
