USDA ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR THE INTERSTATE MOVEMENT OF MUNICIPAL WASTE FROM HAWAII TO THE MAINLAND
WASHINGTON, March 20, 2008--The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) today released, for review and comment, a regional programmatic environmental assessment related to the interstate movement of municipal solid waste from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland.
Prepared in response to requests to allow the interstate movement of garbage from Hawaii to landfills in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, the assessment documents APHIS’ review and analysis of environmental impacts associated with, and alternatives to, such movements.
Notice of this action was published in the March 13 Federal Register.
Consideration will be given to comments received on or before April 14. Send two copies of postal mail or commercial delivery comments to Docket No. APHIS-2007-0070, Regulatory Analysis and Development, PPD, APHIS, Station 3A-03.8, 4700 River Road, Unit 118, Riverdale, MD 20737-1238.
