USDA Seeks Comment on Scope of an Environmental Impact Statement on Cattle Fever Ticks, Public Meetings will be Held in South Texas
WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2011 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) intends to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) on a proposed cattle fever tick control barrier in south Texas, and is seeking public comment to help identify or confirm potential alternatives and issues to examine.
As a part of the public comment process, APHIS plans to hold four public meetings. The public meetings will be held in the following locations:
Monday, March 7: Rio Grande City, Texas, Holiday Inn, 5274 East Highway 83 and Blanco Road;
Tuesday, March 8: Zapata, Texas, Zapata Community Center, 607 North U.S. Highway 83;
Wednesday, March 9: Laredo, Texas, Laredo Civic Center, 2400 San Bernardo Avenue; and
Thursday, March 10: Eagle Pass, Texas, Hampton Inn, 3301 East Main Street. The meetings will be held from 10 a.m. to noon local time in Rio Grande City, Zapata and Eagle Pass, and from 9 a.m. to noon local time in Laredo. Registration for providing oral comments will begin 30 minutes prior to the opening of each meeting.
