Effective January 28, 2008, employees who are wounded veterans may participate in the MRP Voluntary Leave Transfer Program without first having to exhaust their own available paid leave. (Section 1111 of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008 signed into law on 1/28/08 [PL 110-181])
An employee who:
Sustains a combat-related disability while serving as a member of the Armed Forces (including a reserve component), and
Is undergoing medical treatment for that disability is eligible to participate in the program.
Length of Program Participation
Employees may receive donated annual leave for up to 5 years from the start of the employee’s treatment, as long as the employee continues to undergo such medical treatment.
The 5-year period begins on January 28, 2008, for an employee who is already undergoing medical treatment.
