To address these concerns, a senior executive board has been created to help APHIS traverse the challenges of finding and preparing leaders for the Agency. This board will help formalize and institutionalize an Agency-wide succession plan and leadership development program that gathers the pieces that exist in APHIS into a clearer and consistent vision. The members will serve as navigators for ensuring that the Agency’s succession plan is implemented.
The Talent Management and Leadership Development Board (TMLDB) will:
Since the board is designed to have an Agency-level focus, members will be selected to represent facets of leadership within the Agency rather than specific program perspectives. By having a small number of members, the board will be able to remain focused and committed to the task at hand with less potential for subdivisions and attention to program delivery issues. Members will bring their experiences to bear on the leadership and succession planning issues in APHIS, rather than to “vote” according to their program affiliation. The TMLDB will exemplify collaboration and looking beyond program boundaries as the executive members’ model behaviors and values they wish to instill throughout the agency in developing future leaders. Members are drawn from the ranks of senior leadership at the SES and GS-15 levels in APHIS.
Executive Support & Leadership Services has the unique distinction of facilitation, administration and support of this board. This positions ESLS to provide just-in-time action to the board’s recommendations but also to proactively share our insights with the board based on the work we do with real leaders like you everyday.
