When your move is authorized, we will send you a Household Goods Move booklet. This booklet describes the moving process and emphasizes some of the most important events which occur before, during and after the move. Please read this manual carefully and think of any questions you may have.
Provide as much notice as possible when scheduling dates for surveys, packing, shipping, etc.
Move dates must be set with your household moves coordinator at Administrative Services Division (ASD)-Minneapolis. Do not set up dates with the van line or local agent.
Be present during the packing, loading, and delivery of your household items. If you cannot be there, have a dependable adult present for the entire process. Be sure they they know to sign all the paperwork and keep a copy for your records.
The movers will pack all items which they will move. Some items which they cannot move are:
Flammable and combustible liquids such as paint, paint thinner and gasoline.
Perishable items such as food and house plants.
For your protection, we recommend that you take all valuable jewelry and currency with you.
Keep your phone connected until the day after loading. The van line will want to stay in touch with you throughout the move process.
When the packing is complete, do a walk-through to be sure nothing is left behind. Be sure to look in all closets, cupboards, drawers and sheds. Don't forget under the stairs, in the attic, and behind doors.
Be sure to provide the van line with all contact telephone numbers to reach you while your goods are in transit. This includes friends, relatives, hotels, and work numbers. Also provide your new home phone number.
The unpacking process is often misunderstood. If you request, the van line will unbox your items. Unboxing means exactly that. They do not arrange items for you. For this reason, we recommend that you unpack your own items.
Your Household Moves Coordinator at Administrative Services Division (ASD)-Minneapolis is here to make your move as smooth & uneventful as possible. We encourage you to ask questions of your Household Moves Coordinator, the moving company and driver, and your program. Please do not assume anything! It is always safer to ask questions.
