  • CONSIGNEE  - The relocating employee.
  • CONTAINER - (CARTON) a specially constructed box used in packing household goods.
  • GOVERNMENT BILL OF LADING (GBL) - Document issued by the Household Moves Coordinator.  Used to pay carrier for the move.
  • GAINING OFFICE - The office you will be reporting to; the regional or administrative office that will be issuing your travel authorization.
  • INTERSTATE SHIPMENT - Shipment between states.
  • INTRASTATE SHIPMENT - Shipment within a state.
VAN LINE - The moving company that will transport your household goods.
  • INVENTORY - The list and condition of your household furnishings, including the number of packed containers.
  • RELOCATION SERVICES - Federal Supply Schedule, negotiated by GSA, to buy real estate from relocating Federal employees.  This service must be requested by employee and will be implemented by the gaining office.
  • SHUTTLE SERVICE - Can be necessary when employee's residence is inaccessible to moving van, i.e., low hanging branches, electrical lines, sharp turns/narrow driveways, narrow streets, etc.  If these conditions the carrier's representative will notify the Household Moves Coordinator.  There is always an extra charge involved with a shuttle so the Household Moves Coordinator requires prior notification by the carrier's representative, verbally, prior to the move.
  • 3RD PARTY SERVICE - A company, hired by the mover, to crate or service furniture or appliances.  This service can only be authorized by the Household Moves Coordinator and only after certain conditions are met.  If the service is requested by the employee and is considered other than a "normal business practice," the employee is required to pay for the service.  If the service is requested by the employee and negotiated with the van line representative, direct, the employee is required to pay for this service.
