USDA SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP TO THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2005—The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking nominations for membership to the National Wildlife Services Advisory Committee. Terms for existing members will expire in July 2005.

Current members can be re-nominated to serve on the new committee if they have not served more than three consecutive terms. Each term is two years and members advise the Secretary of Agriculture concerning policies, program issues and research needed to support the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s wildlife services (WS) program. The committee also serves as a public forum enabling those interested in WS’ activities to have a voice in the program’s direction.

WS recognizes that wildlife is an important public resource greatly valued by the American people and provides federal leadership in managing problems that occur when human activity and wildlife are in conflict with one another.

An organization may nominate individuals from within or outside its membership. The Secretary of Agriculture will select members in order to obtain the broadest possible representation on the committee. Equal opportunity practices, in line with USDA policies, will be followed in all appointments to the committee. To ensure that the recommendations of the committee have taken into account the needs of the diverse groups served by USDA, membership should include, to the extent practical, people with demonstrated ability to represent minorities, women and persons with disabilities.

The notice of solicitation for membership is scheduled for publication in the May 10 Federal Register. APHIS documents published in the Federal Register and related information, including the names of organizations and individuals who have commented on APHIS dockets, are available on the Internet at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppd/rad/webrepor.html.

Consideration will be given to nominations received on or before June 24. Nominations can be submitted by postal mail, commercial delivery or by e-mail. Send an original and three copies of postal mail or commercial delivery nominations to Docket No. 04-126-2, addressed to Joanne Garrett, director, operational support staff, USDA, APHIS, WS, 4700 River Road, Unit 87, Riverdale, Md. 20737-1234 or e-mail nominations to joanne.p.garrett@aphis.usda.gov. E-mail nominations must be contained in the body of the message; do not send attached files. Please include your name and address in the message and type Docket No. 04-126-2 on the subject line.
