APHIS TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING FOR ANIMAL IDENTIFICATION MANUFACTURERS
AND DISTRIBUTORS
WASHINGTON, Nov. 5, 2004–The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service today announced that a public
meeting for National Animal Identification System (NAIS) stakeholders,
particularly those that manufacture or distribute animal identification
devices and technologies, will be held Nov. 19, in Kansas City, Mo.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for these stakeholders to offer
comments on the administration of animal identification numbers (AINs)
under the NAIS. The meeting will focus on anticipated roles and requirements
for individuals, organizations and companies that would like to become
authorized animal identification number managers or distributors. APHIS
anticipates that official AIN management and distribution options will
be implemented by mid-2005.
The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 19, at the Kansas
City Airport Marriott, 775 Brasilia Ave., Kansas City, Mo. For more

Notice of the meeting is scheduled for publication Nov. 8 Federal
