Plants and Plant Products

Request to Export or Import

We will refer to plants and plant products as a commodity to keep things simple. The program unit involved for these commodities is PPQ.The authorization process begins when an individual, a company, or a government outside of the United States makes a request to export a commodity to the United States, or when an individual or a company in the United States makes a request to import a commodity. It may also be that another government makes a request for the status of a particular commodity.

It is recommended that the requester provide as much information about the product, the country or region of origin, and its status. In order to do so, requesters should consult the APHIS Web Home Page prior to making the request in order to determine the status, meaning whether it is already enterable and if it is subject to restrictions.
