Denial and Risk Assessment Determination

If a commodity is not approved, then the permit is denied. This process should normally take less than two months. That denial is not necessarily the end of the story. Governments and companies can request a change in or a reassessment of the present status of a prohibited commodity. This request generates a process by which the PPQ Scientific Group determines if a risk assessment is warranted.

If a risk assessment has not been done within the past 10 years, then the Permit Unit may request that an assessment be conducted. If a risk assessment has been conducted within the past 10 years, then the Permit Unit will determine if conditions exist that warrant reassessment. If the answer is yes, it will request a reassessment. If the answer is no, then the Permit Unit will continue to deny entry.
