Plant Import Information

Sugarcane and related grasses - Saccharum species (continued)

Setts should reach the PGQP in March (southern hemisphere origins) or August (northern hemisphere origins). Plants will be observed for symptoms of diseases during each of two growing cycles and tested for select pathogens at the time of ratooning or shipping. The distributed setts will be taken from mature sugarcane plants that were grown from long, hot-water treated cane pieces. Setts cut for distribution will by heat-treated prior to shipping. Plants infected with economically important pathogens will be destroyed without distribution of cane setts to the designated recipient.
