Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)

One fashion in which the hazard analysis can be completed is by the use of a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) form. JHAs looks at the various “tasks” that encompass fieldwork, analyze each portion for the hazards involved, and make recommendations on how to mitigate, eliminate or limit the hazard. JHAs have been completed for a number of common tasks during an APHIS deployment (see list below). The Incident Safety Officer should develop new JHAs or modify provided ones as needed. The JHA is a tool for both training and documenting safe procedures. Appendix 3-B is a blank JHA form. Below is a list of common “tasks” for a deployment for which JHAs have been completed. The JHAs can be found in the appendix, under Appendix 3-C. Appendix 3-D (pdf) is a primer on writing a JSA.
