USDA Provides Update for Farmers on Genetically Engineered Rice

On November 24, 2006, APHIS announced that tests identified 2003 Cheniere variety as the only foundation seed that tested positive for genetically engineered (GE) LLRICE601. The tests were conducted as part of an ongoing investigation of the release of regulated material into supplies of commercial long-grain rice. Since this finding, APHIS testing confirmed the presence of trace levels of regulated genetic material in Clearfield 131 (CL131) rice seed.
