To support animal health, in Fiscal Year (FY) 2016, APHIS initiated 155 cases; issued 65 Official Warnings; and issued 8 pre-litigation settlements, resulting in the collection of $11,250 in stipulated penalties against persons for violations of laws aimed at protecting animal health and American agriculture. APHIS negotiated a pre-litigation settlement in the amount of $6,250 for a violation of the Animal Health Protection Act relating to the interstate movement of cattle without the required interstate certificate of veterinary inspection. Also, in November 2015, IES, along with Veterinary Services’ Agriculture Select Agent Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Select Agents and Toxins presented training to the Select Agent regulated community regarding compliance with the select agents regulations and the roles and responsibilities of APHIS and the CDC.
