To support domestic plant health in Fiscal Year (FY) 2016, APHIS initiated 55 cases and issued 18 pre-litigation settlement agreements, resulting in the collection of $101,926. Following an investigation conducted by IES and the USDA Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Department of Justice obtained a criminal conviction for fraudulent use of International Plant Protection Convention, International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) marks on wood packaging materials, resulting in a $50,000 penalty. APHIS also obtained an administrative order resolving fraudulent use of ISPM marks, with assessment of a $20,000 civil penalty.
