USDA Requests Public Input on dEIS for Deregulation of Freeze-Tolerant GE Eucalyptus

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) seeks public input on a draft environmental impact statement (dEIS) and preliminary plant pest risk assessment (PPRA) as part of its review of a petition to deregulate two lines of genetically engineered freeze-tolerant Eucalyptus. The petition was submitted by ArborGen, Inc.

On June 1, 2017, USDA APHIS announced the extension of the comment period to July 5, 2017, on the dEIS and PPRA related to the ArborGen, Inc. petition. The comment period was initially to close on June 5, 2017.

This action will allow interested persons additional time to prepare and submit comments. Notice of this comment period closing date was published by the Environmental Protection Agency in the Federal Register on May 19, 2017.
