2017 Proposed Rule for Biotechnology Regulations

About the 2017 Proposed Rule that was Withdrawn
On November 7, 2017, APHIS announced the withdrawal of the proposed rule to revise the agency’s biotechnology regulations that had been published in January.  The proposed rule was open for a 150-day comment period from January 19, 2017 until June 19, 2017 on Regulations.gov, where over 200 submissions were received.  In addition, APHIS held three public meetings during the open comment period.  USDA APHIS withdrew the rule to re-engage with stakeholders to determine the most effective, science-based approach for regulating the products of modern biotechnology while protecting plant health.
