July 8-9, 2014
An educational symposium sponsored by USDA-APHIS-Animal Care
focusing on welfare, husbandry and safety
Our goal is for participants to learn the emerging science on caring for lions, tigers and bears of all ages to ensure the animals’ welfare, provide for the safety of the public who comes to see them and be able to apply the latest information at their own facilities in order to improve the health and welfare of the animals in their care.
This two-day event covered a range of topics, including behavior-based husbandry, safety, disaster preparedness, hand rearing, transportation, operant conditioning, enrichment and diet/nutrition to help lions, tigers and bears thrive in captivity. You can view a more detailed version of agenda topics covered by clicking here.
We were very excited to host this event and provide the opportunity to share the collective expertise of our speakers to enhance the welfare of lions, tigers and bears at facilities across the United States. If you have any questions, please contact the Center for Animal Welfare at 816.737.4201.
