NAHMS, a nonregulatory unit of APHIS Veterinary Services, is conducting its Sheep 2024 study in collaboration with USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

The first mailings to a select group of 4,940 randomly chosen sheep producers will be sent starting in late November 2023. Phase I data collection, performed by USDA–NASS enumerators, will take place from December 2023 through February 2024, while Phase II data collection, performed by veterinary medical officers and animal health technicians, will take place from April through July 2024.

Important documents for participants or those interested in the study can be found below.

NAHMS also conducted studies on sheep production and health in 1996, 2001, and 2011 and on scrapie ovine slaughter surveillance in 2001–2003.
