The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) recognizes Japan as free of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Newcastle disease

Summary
This recognition is based on a risk evaluation APHIS prepared and made available for public review and comment. APHIS published the proposal in June 2017 and received two comments that were considered and addressed. After thorough evaluation, APHIS determined that Japan’s surveillance, prevention and control measures will adequately minimize the risk of introducing these diseases into the United States through imports or any susceptible products.
