Foreign Animal and Emerging Diseases Course
August 13-15, 2013 - Knoxville, TN

The UT College of Veterinary Medicine will host an in-depth training course on Foreign Animal and Emerging Diseases in Knoxville, Tennessee from August 13th - 15th, 2013. This event is jointly sponsored with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and includes speakers with international expertise.

This course provides an excellent opportunity for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and Extension agents. Other allied professionals who are responsible for foreign animal disease outbreak response will find this training beneficial. Individuals in private practice, academia, industry and government are encouraged to attend.

The course will include a demonstration and hands on activity involving the donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Appropriate disinfection and decontamination procedures will also be covered.

Incident Command System (ICS) Training and Resources
Train APHIS personnel to work seamlessly and effectively within an Incident Command System organization during emergencies and disasters.


Veterinary Services Careers Program (VSCP)
The VSCP is designed to provide a support system for new employees to ensure a smooth transition into Federal service. The program can maximize developmental opportunities so participants are ready to meet the challenges of public veterinary health in our fast-paced society. The VSCP is being expanded to include additional professions beyond the veterinary field.

Smith Kilborne Program
This program is designed to acquaint veterinary students with various foreign animal diseases which potentially threaten our domestic animal population.

VS Information Technology (IT) Applications Training

Classroom training for the Emergency Management Response System (EMRS) and Mobile Information Management (MIM) is listed in the PDS Training Catalog. The VS Information Systems Training Network is also available to assist end users of several VS IT applications. Network Associates are experienced VS IT application users and may be available to answer questions, provide field or web-based assistance, and provide classroom training. Network Associates are currently available to assist with Mobile Information Management (MIM) and Veterinary Services Process Streamlining (VSPS).
