NAHRS protects the global market share of America's animals and animal products by helping the U.S. meet trade commitments, reduce disruption of existing trade, and aid in expansion of trade. NAHRS also enhances animal health surveillance and is part of the national animal health surveillance reporting infrastructure. Individual states benefit from participating in NAHRS by strengthening their internal animal health surveillance abilities through enhancement of disease reporting infrastructure in their State and using standardized disease reporting criteria. NAHRS reporting information enables States and animal industries to provide timely and accurate information for maintaining and developing international trade. Further, NAHRS reporting provides States with important current and historic records of occurences of reportable diseases; this information may be used to inform decision-making related to animal health issues including emerging animal health situations. >> Return to 'About NAHRS'Last Modified:
