Classical Swine Fever, Croatia Impact Worksheet, June 25, 2002 |
Summary: On June 20, 2002, Croatia reported to the OIE an outbreak of classical swine fever in Novska municipality, in the central part of the country. Croatia’s last reported outbreak of CSF was in July of 1999 in the western part of the country. An Impact Worksheet on this previous outbreak is available on this website. Little has changed since 1999 which would change the impact to the US swine herd due to CSF in Croatia. Stocks of pigs and production of pigmeat in 2001 are approximately equivalent to levels reported in 1999. US imports of prepared and/or cooked meat from swine have overall decreased significantly over the past several years. Passenger traffic from Croatia to the US remained very similar from 1997 to 2000. A short update to the 1999 impact worksheet is presented here.
