Voluntary Bovine Johne’s Disease Control Program
National Program Herd List
The
following list is a collection of herds enrolled in the
Voluntary Bovine Johne’s Disease Control Program
(VBJDCP). The United States Department of Agriculture,
Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary
Services (USDA-AHPIS-VS) in cooperation with State agriculture
departments is posting this list in an effort to help producers
seeking “low risk” replacement livestock for
their herds. Data is provided by the agricultural departments
of each State and the completeness of data provided is
subject to the rules and regulations regarding confidentiality
of the participating States.

| Level – |
Program
level for which the premises has achieved during the current
period. |
1 – JPL1 – |
Johne’s
disease Program level 1 – A test negative herd with
an approved Johne’s disease herd management plan in
place to prevent the introduction of Johne’s disease
and has been Enzyme-link Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) tested,
(if any ELISA test results are positive, then follow-up fecal
culture tests results were negative) in an approved laboratory,
a minimum of 30 randomly selected animals, preferably three
years and older. Thirty negative ELISA tests provides an
estimated 95% confidence that in herds with a 10% infection
rate, the testing would find at least one infected animal
or approximately 85% probability that the herd is free of
Johne’s using the current testing methods. Herd addition
restrictions are in place. |
2 – JPL2 – |
Johne’s
disease Program level 2 – A test negative herd with
an approved Johne’s disease herd management plan in
place to prevent the introduction of Johne’s disease,
had been at JPL1 and has completed a second round of testing
with a whole herd test (up to 530 test eligible animals)
tested by ELISA (if any ELISA test results are positive,
then follow-up fecal culture tests were negative) in an approved
laboratory. In combination with the testing at JPL1, this
is equivalent to an estimated 95% probability that the herd
is free of Johne’s using the current testing methods.
Herd addition restrictions are in place. |
3 – JPL3 – |
Johne’s
disease Program level 3 – A test negative herd with
an approved Johne’s disease herd management plan in
place to prevent the introduction of Johne’s disease,
had been at JPL2 and has gone through a third round of testing
with a whole herd test (up to 313 test eligible animals)
tested by an organism detection method (fecal culture or
fecal PCR with all samples test negative) in an approved
laboratory. In combination with the testing at JPL1 and JPL2,
this is equivalent to an estimated 98% probability that the
herd is free of Johne’s using the current testing methods.
Herd addition restrictions are in place. |
4 – JPL4 – |
Johne’s
disease Program level 4 – A test negative herd with
an approved Johne’s disease herd management plan in
place to prevent the introduction of Johne’s disease,
had been at JPL2 and has gone through a fourth round of testing
with a whole herd test (up to 530 test eligible animals)
tested by an ELISA test (if any ELISA test results positive,
then follow-up fecal culture tests were negative) in an approved
laboratory. In combination with the testing at JPL1 JPL2,
and JPL3, this is equivalent to an estimated 99% probability
that the herd is free of Johne’s using the current
testing methods. Herd addition restrictions are in place. |
Years
at level – |
Years
at level – Herd may choose the option of remaining
at one level for multiple years by keeping their Johne’s
disease approved herd management plan up to date and randomly
testing 30 test eligible animals as a monitoring option.
Multiple years of testing at a given level also increases
the probability that the herd is free of Johne’s disease. |
